Duties and Responsibilities

The Nurse Educator/Trainer performs the following duties as assigned.


  1. Follow all policies, procedures, and protocols.

  2. Will participate in writing policies, procedures, and protocols.

  3. Will follow all OSHA Guidelines and Standards, provide ongoing assessment of OSHA compliance in the clinic,      and be available to staff for questions/concerns regarding OSHA compliance and client care.

  4. Schedule and conduct staff education/team meetings.

  5. By participation in the work of the units, evaluates clinical standards and identifies areas of need for specific education and training for nursing staff, and prepares and      delivers the required programs.

  6. Coordinates the provision of practical experience programs for licensed nurses.

  7. Maintains a general ongoing continuing education program for La Esperanza Clinic.

  8. Specifically develops trans-cultural concepts in nursing care.

  9. Provides encouragement and assistance to nursing staff to maintain current knowledge in nursing practices and research.

  10. Participates in the maintenance of up-to-date nursing policies and procedures.

  11. Acts as a consultant to professional colleagues on all matters related to learning that promote knowledge enhancement of nurses.

  12. Teaches CPR to all qualified staff.

  13. Teaches the various theoretical and practical aspects of nursing care.

  14. Gives suggestions for the purchase of learning material and other educational resources.

  15. Develops new courses for nursing staff and monitor their progress.

  16. Will work closely with the Epic Connect team & LEC to learn processes for the workflow of Epic at LEC.

  17. Will attend training and obtain certification as an Epic Connect Ambulatory Analyst.

  18. Will provide Epic support and education for all LEC team members.

  19. Is trained in Credentialing and Competency validation processes and procedures.

  20. Ensures all staff knows and understands department policies and procedures concerning CPR, fire, disaster,      emergency codes, etc.

  21. Maintain employee Health Records and Vaccines required during Onboarding and yearly prerequisites.

  22. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

  23. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe their responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job–related      hazards.

  24. Operates assigned equipment and safely performs all procedures as instructed.

  25. Maintains work area and equipment in the condition LEC standards require.

  26. Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.

  27. Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment (Universal Precautions).

  28. Assures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.

  29. Demonstrating flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to cooperate while working with others in assigned inter-professional care teams to support PCMH programmatic      activities.

  30. Apply the principles of comprehensive, community-based, patient-centered, developmentally appropriate, and culturally and linguistically sensitive care.

  31. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Knowledge of basic principles of health promotion, prevention, and motivation

  • Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the Center’s current operational protocols

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Texas Nursing Practice Act

  • Ability to instruct and perform essential nursing duties

  • Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions, short correspondence, and memos

  • Ability to document, with clarity, all information relevant to an employee’s training needs

  • Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to Center staff

  • Ability to prepare statistical and administrative reports

  • Ability to use a glucometer and interpret the results

  • Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones, and copiers

  • Ability to prioritize and allocate resources

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Maintains professional courtesy at all times

Preferred

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

Credentials and Experience

Required

  • Registered Nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing.

  • Current unrestricted license from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas

  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification

  • EPIC Ambulatory Certification

  • Three (3) years of practice experience as an RN giving direct patient care

Preferred

  • CPR Instructor

Special Requirements

The employee must be able to lift and move more than 50 pounds. Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye/hand coordination. Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is required.
