What to Expect During Your Visit

Your annual preventive checkup at La Esperanza Clinic is designed to look at the full picture of your health.

During your visit, your provider will review your medical history, medications, and lifestyle habits while checking key measurements like blood pressure, weight, and overall wellness indicators. You’ll also have time to talk through any questions or concerns—big or small.

Based on your age, health history, and risk factors, your provider may recommend:

  • Preventive screenings like cholesterol, diabetes, or cancer screenings

  • Vaccines and immunizations

  • Mental health check-ins

  • Guidance on nutrition, exercise, sleep, and overall wellness

Every visit is personalized, so you receive the care that’s right for you.

Who It's For and When to Come In

Annual preventive checkups are important for patients of all ages.

Children and teens receive well-child visits focused on growth, development, and immunizations. Adults benefit from routine preventive exams that help monitor health and detect issues early. Older adults may also receive Medicare-covered preventive visits that focus on risk prevention and long-term health planning.

Most patients should plan to come in once a year, even if they’re feeling well.

Why It Matters

Many health conditions develop without noticeable symptoms. Preventive checkups help identify potential concerns early—when they are often easier to treat and manage.

Staying consistent with yearly visits can help:

  • Catch health issues before they become serious

  • Keep screenings and vaccines up to date

  • Track changes in your health over time

  • Reduce your risk of chronic disease

Understanding Your Coverage

At La Esperanza Clinic, we accept a wide range of insurance plans and work to make preventive care as accessible and affordable as possible. Preventive checkups are often covered by insurance at little to no cost when you see an in-network provider. Coverage can vary depending on your plan, so here’s a general breakdown:

Important to know:
Most preventive checkups are covered, but if you talk through new concerns or need additional testing during your visit, there may be some costs depending on your plan. If you ever have questions about what’s covered, our team is always here to help.

Private Insurance

Most private insurance plans (or commercial coverage) cover annual preventive checkups at no cost when you use an in-network provider.

This typically includes:

  • Routine checkups

  • Preventive screenings

  • Recommended vaccines

Keep in mind: If you discuss new symptoms, need treatment, or require additional testing, there may be out-of-pocket costs depending on your plan.

Medicaid & CHIP

Medicaid and CHIP provide strong coverage for preventive care—especially for children.

  • Children: Preventive checkups, screenings, and vaccines are fully covered

  • Adults: Coverage is available, but services may vary in Texas

These visits are an important way to stay on track with your health and catch issues early.

Medicare

Medicare covers yearly preventive visits (also called Annual Wellness Visits), but they are a little different from a traditional physical exam.

  • Includes a yearly preventive visit focused on health planning and risk prevention

  • Reviews your medical history, medications, and risk factors

  • Helps create a personalized prevention plan

Note: This visit does not always include a full physical exam or all lab work.

No Insurance?

You still have options.

We offer a sliding fee scale based on income to make care more affordable. Our team can also help determine if you may qualify for programs like Medicaid.

Women's Preventive Care

At La Esperanza Clinic, preventive checkups also include well-woman visits, which focus on women’s overall health and wellness.

These visits may include:

  • Breast exams and screening recommendations

  • Cervical cancer screenings (Pap tests)

  • Birth control counseling

  • Reproductive and sexual health discussions

  • Menopause and hormonal health support

Just like other preventive checkups, well-woman visits are typically covered by most insurance plans.

These visits are an important part of staying healthy at every stage of life.
