Medicaid 101

Whether you’re unsure if you qualify for Medicaid or just need help navigating the system, this event is for you. Medicaid 101 is a free, in-person event where we break things down in simple terms.

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: La Esperanza Clinic West, 34 Buick Street, San Angelo, Texas

Cost: Free
Who Should Attend: Anyone with questions about Medicaid, including parents, seniors, pregnant women, and individuals who are uninsured or underinsured.

While registration is not required, we encourage you to sign up so we can be ready to help you. Walk-ins are always welcome!

About Medicaid 101

Every hour, we’ll hold short education sessions covering:

  • What Medicaid is and who qualifies

  • How to apply or renew coverage

  • Benefits available for children, pregnant women, adults, and seniors

  • What to do if you've been denied or lost coverage


Our team will also be available to help you on the spot with:

  • Enrollment or renewal applications

  • WIC applications

  • Social needs screenings (like help with food, housing, utilities, and more)


We’ll also have local resource partners at the event to provide additional support and answer your questions.

Is this event only for people with kids?
No! We can help adults, expecting mothers, seniors, and anyone with Medicaid questions or needs.


Do I need to bring anything?
If you'd like help with enrollment, bring:

  • Proof of identity (Texas ID, Drivers License)

  • Proof of income (pay stub, benefits letter, etc.)

  • Proof of residency (utility bill, lease, etc.)

  • Social Security card (if available)

  • Proof of pregnancy (if pregnant)

Frequently Asked Question About Medicaid

  • Medicaid is a state and federal program that helps cover medical costs for people with limited income and resources. It may also offer benefits not normally covered by Medicare, like dental, vision, and transportation.

  • You may qualify if you are:

    • Pregnant

    • A child or teenager under 19

    • A parent or caretaker of a child

    • An adult over 65

    • An adult with a disability
      Eligibility is based on income and household size.

  • Yes, we proudly accept Medicaid, including STAR, CHIP and Texas Healthy Women plans

  • CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) is similar to Medicaid but for children in families who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid. We accept both CHIP and Medicaid.

  • Undocumented individuals generally do not qualify for full Medicaid. However, they may be eligible for emergency Medicaid or receive services through our sliding fee scale.
